e-mail from my good friend Mike Klineman. He is the father of the Stanford University Women’s Volleyball Star Alix
Klineman.I had a chance to spend
a few years on the road with Mike Klineman and they were some of the best years
of my life.
Attached is his e-mail to
Kids Talk Radio:
“Attached
is a picture of me before the Stanford-UH game last weekend. There were nearly
8000 people watching the match. “ Mike Klineman.

Make history or be history: The Stanford Cardinal women’s volleyball team did the impossible against the Texas Longhorns in the semifinals of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship. Down 2-0, Stanford had one of the most mesmerizing comebacks in college volleyball history. Led by its hitters Cynthia Barboza and Foluke Akinradewo, the Cardinal overcame the 2-0 deficit to win the next three sets 25-15, 25-22, 15-13.

I was sitting in the audience for this great volleyball classic battle. With 17, 400 fans in the stands the sound hurt my eardrums. The vibrations at the Quest Center were almost too much to take. Juliann Faucette (Texas) was brining on her “A” game and sparks were flying over the court. This was just a great game to watch. I was so glad to be a part of this history-making event at the Quest Center.
Mr. Volleyball Kid’s Talk Radio
On Winning the Pack Ten The Stanford Women’s Volleyball Team won the Pack 10 for three years in a row. When was the last time an NCAA football or basketball team accomplished that goal. That was no easy task.
Cynthia Barboza and Foluke Akinradewo did not make it to the 2008 Olympics. So, the Quest Center in Nebraska had to be their Olympics. We’ll, they had more fans. At 17,400 fans in the building and all the TV coverage I would say this was almost an Olympic crowd. Stanford won a silver medal by coming in second place. It was just a great NCAA event for volleyball fans nationwide. Should we have all the big volleyball events at the Quest Center and on network TV?

Many of the women’s volleyball team members had played with each other on other teams. I remember seeing players for UCLA, Texas, Nebraska, Stanford in Mexico this past summer. They were just one big happy family on the USA National Team. I have a good feeling we are going to seeing lots of these young women playing on our beaches, and Pan Am games, and on many teams in Europe, Japan, South America, and elsewhere.

The Stanford Band will support women's volleyball all the way to the end of the earth.
What does a band conductor have to do to stand out in a crowd?
